Abstract

Abstract: Psychological disorder including stress was contributed up to 80% to the progression of cancer, but it also could impact medical outcomes such as the experience of side effects during treatment. Identifying the factor that explains variability in stress would guide future interventions aimed at decreasing stress. Two factors that have been related to stress are Demographic characteristics and health conditions. This study is the first to Investigated related between Demographic characteristics, Health condition, and stress in the cancer patient. A cross-sectional study of 72 patients (20-65 years old) with cancer were enrolled. The patients completed the Depression Anxiety Stress Scales (DASS 42) to assess their levels of stress. Demographic (gender, age, education level, occupation, and income) and health condition (Cancer type, therapy type, and Length of Sickness) were also collected. Data analyzed was the Mann-Whitney U test, Kruskal-Wallis test dan Regression test. The Levels Stress prevalence rate of patients were mild stress (48,6%), moderate stress (50.0%), and severe stress (1.4%). Statistical tests showed that there was a significant difference in stress score based on education level (ρ = 0.045) and type of therapy (ρ = 0.0001), the regression results obtained variable type of therapy to be the most dominant factor related to stress (β =, -0,368; ρ = 0.002 ). The high prevalence of level stress on cancer patients suggests that need more attention should be paid to mental health in these patients. Therefore, health workers, especially nurses should pay close attention to the factor that can to increase level stress in the cancer patient.
